Pubs & Counter Meals
Dinner in Denman means a country pub, and that's no bad thing. The village hotels do generous counter meals, pour Hunter wine by the glass and keep the beer properly cold — all a five-minute walk from your room.
What to expect
Steaks, schnitzels, fish, a roast on the right night and a chalkboard of specials. Portions are country-sized. Both hotels have wide verandahs and the kind of front bar where a solo traveller gets talked to within five minutes.
Timing
Kitchens close early in small towns — aim to order by 8pm, earlier on quieter weeknights. If you're arriving late, tell reception and we'll let you know what's still serving.
- Walk, don't drive — everything is five minutes away.
- Sunday nights can be quiet; ring ahead to check the kitchen's open.
- Ask for the local drop by the glass; the pubs stock Upper Hunter labels.
