Events & When to Visit
The Upper Hunter has a rhythm to it, and knowing the calendar makes a big difference to when you should come — and how far ahead you need to book a room.
January to March — vintage
Harvest. The valley is at its busiest and most alive, machinery running through the night and cellar doors buzzing. Hot days, but the best time to see a working wine region actually working.
April to June — the best weather
Crisp mornings, warm still days, vines turning gold. May brings the Scone Horse Festival and the Scone Cup carnival, which fills every room in the Upper Hunter — book months ahead.
Winter and spring
Winter is quiet, cold at night and perfect for red wine and pub fires. Spring brings agricultural shows in Muswellbrook and across the district, wildflowers in the national parks and green paddocks everywhere.
- Book well ahead for Scone Cup week and long weekends.
- Midweek stays are quieter and easier to get at short notice.
- Reception can tell you what's on locally the week you're here.
Events run in Denman, Muswellbrook, Scone and across the Hunter wine districts.
