Lake Glenbawn is the biggest body of water in the Upper Hunter — a long, deep dam on the Hunter River ringed by grassy hills and set up properly for visitors, with boat ramps, camping, barbecues and huge lawns for kids to run on.
On the water
Waterskiing, wakeboarding, kayaking and sailing all happen here, and the lake is well known for Australian bass, golden perch and catfish. There are sealed boat ramps and plenty of room for the boat and trailer.
On land
Grassed picnic areas with electric barbecues, playgrounds, walking tracks and lookouts over the water. It's an easy day for families who want kids to burn off energy without a long bushwalk.
Getting there from Denman
Head to Muswellbrook, north on the New England Highway through Aberdeen, then east to the dam. It's around 50 minutes of easy driving — pack the day's food before you leave, as options at the lake are limited.

North-east via Muswellbrook and Scone, then east from Aberdeen to the dam.
